What Makes a Frame Feel Expensive?

Ever picked up a pair of glasses and immediately thought, ohhh, these feel nice?

It’s not always about the logo or the price tag.

There are a lot of little details that can make a frame feel noticeably different, and once you know what to look for, you start noticing them everywhere.

It starts with the material

Good materials make a difference.

Quality acetate, titanium and other carefully chosen materials can feel completely different in your hands - and on your face.

Some frames are lightweight but incredibly strong. Others have a beautiful depth of colour that you just don't get with cheaper plastics.

And then there are the ones where you can actually see the craftsmanship in the material itself.

Then there are the hinges

This is one of those things you probably don't think about until you've tried a really good frame.

A well-made hinge should feel smooth, precise and solid, not loose, stiff or clunky.

It's a tiny detail, but you use it every single time you put your glasses on.

The finishing matters

Look closely at the edges of a quality frame.

Are they smooth? Polished? Cleanly finished?

On a beautifully made acetate frame, the finishing can give the material an almost jewellery-like quality.

It's the difference between a frame that has simply been made and one that has been properly finished.

The weight - or lack of it

Some of the best frames are the ones you barely notice you're wearing.

Titanium is a great example. It's incredibly lightweight and strong, which is why we love brands like Ørgreen and Lool.

Some Lool frames weigh as little as 8 grams.

That's pretty impressive for something you're going to wear on your face all day.

And then there's the fit

A frame can be beautifully made and still not feel right if it doesn't fit you properly.

The bridge, width, temple length, nose pads and overall shape all make a difference.

A really good frame should feel balanced on your face, comfortable, secure and like it belongs there.

So, is an expensive frame always better?

Not necessarily.

Price doesn't automatically equal quality.

What we look for is thoughtful design, good materials, craftsmanship, finishing and a great fit.

Sometimes you can pick up a frame and immediately understand why it costs more.

And once you've worn one, you start to notice the difference.

Come and have a look for yourself

At Lens Lounge, we love frames that have a little something extra - beautiful materials, clever design, interesting shapes and those little details that make you want to pick them up and have a closer look.

Because sometimes you really can feel the difference.
